Mitt's Positions

Where Mitt Stands on the Issues.

Abortion Mitt Romney is Pro-Life.
"I am firmly pro-life."(1)

Abstinence Education Mitt Romney is for Abstinence Education in schools.
"We have sex education in our schools. Let's also have abstinence education in our schools. Marriage and two parent families are fundamental to the development of children and to our success as a culture. We cannot afford to shrink from the timeless, priceless principles of human experience."(2)
For more explanation:

Foreign Aid Mitt Romney is for cutting back and assessing where foreign aid dollars are going.
"And then there's foreign aid. Did you know that we give $27 million a year in foreign aid to China? I will stop sending money to any country that can take care of itself. And no foreign aid will go to countries that oppose American interests.(13)
For more explanation:

Gay Rights and Gay Marriage Mitt Romney opposes both gay marriage and civil unions but believes in fair treatment for gay individuals and some rights for gay couples.
"Throughout our history, when our country needed us, Americans have stepped forward, standing up to every challenge. We need to step forward again today... We step forward by expressing tolerance and respect for all God's children, regardless of their differences and choices. At the same time, because every child deserves a mother and a father, we step forward by recognizing that marriage is between a man and a woman."(3)

Global Warming Mitt Romney believes there might be some global warming but is for a "no-regrets" pro-business approach concerning this issue.
"I think there is probably global warming, and I think humans contribute to it, but I don't know how much. And therefore I am not willing to spend trillions of dollars on global warming projects. That's not an extreme position one way or the other."(12)
For more explanation:

Government Mitt Romney is for limited Government
"It is time to cut out the mountains of waste, and inefficiency and duplication in the federal government. I've done that in business, I've done it in the olympics, I've done it in Massachusetts, and frankly I can't wait to get my hands on Washington."(9)
For more explanation:

Health Care Mitt Romney is for State's Rights on the matter of health care.
"Ours is a state-based plan... We took responsibility for dealing with an issue and we solved it our own way. States should be allowed to approach their care for the poor in the way they think best, rather than have President Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid apply a one-size-fits-all plan for the entire country. The way President Obama has gone about it makes no sense at all."(4)

Immigration Mitt Romney believes in strict enforcement of immigration laws and in welcoming those who come here legally.
"I believe it's important to end illegal immigration so we can maintain and encourage legal immigration. Immigration is good for this country; it's helped us over our history. We need immigration to provide some of the skills that we may miss, migrant workers, and cultural advantages."(5)
"I very firmly believe that we have to make sure that we enforce our borders, that we have an employment verification system, and that those people who have come here illegally do not get an advantage to become permanent residents, they do not get a special pathway."(6)
For more explanation:

Second Amendment Mitt Romney is for 2nd Amendment rights consistent with the original intent of the founders.
"...as with the Second Amendment right to bear arms. This amendment, like all the others, preserves a principle that is fundamental to the American experience: The individual is sovereign, not the rulers."(7)

"The laws I do and will support include decades-old restrictions on weapons of unusual lethality like grenades, rocket launchers, fully automatic firearms and what are legally known as destructive devices and would include similar restrictions on new and exotic weapons of similar or even greater lethality."(8)

Tort Reform Mitt Romney is for national tort reform.
"Another burden on our economic future is our out-of-control tort system. Last year, U.S. corporations spent more money on tort claims than they did on R&D.; If innovation is the key to our long term leadership, then some tort lawyers are cashing out our country's future. I spoke with one member of the plaintiff's bar the other day. He said that the tort lawyers are ok with state reform, but not national reform. You know what state level tort reform means - it means that as long as there is one lawsuit-friendly state, they can sue almost any major, deep-pocketed company in America. No thanks, America needs national tort reform."(10)

"We need national tort reform. Last year American corporations spent more money on tort claims than they spent on R&D;, and that is unacceptable."(11)
